Agenda Item Summary: Redistricting is a multi-year process that the School Board voted last June 2023 to implement after the findings of a boundary analysis conducted by ACPS. School Board policy JCE requires a boundary analysis be conducted every five years or with the opening of a new school. ACPS opened the new Douglas MacArthur building this Fall and will open the new Minnie Howard campus next Fall 2024. The last Redistricting process was implemented in September 2018 and this year marks five years. ACPS is also committed to enable students to attend their boundary school with equitable access to instructional programs and services. The Redistricting process will take into account this commitment while seeking equitable outcomes for all students.
Background: A boundary analysis was conducted last Spring. The findings informed the School Board’s decision to begin the Redistricting process this year which will conclude with implementation in the 2025-26 school year.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the information provided to inform the School Board members about the current plans to implement the multi-year Redistricting process.
