On November 1, 2023, Alexandria City Public Schools received an unrestricted financial donation of $5702.35 from Safeway Foundation as a grant from its School Spirit Education campaign. In accordance with ACPS Policy KH and Regulation KH-R, any donation over $2,500 requires school board approval. The donation must meet the established standards of acceptance requirements.

Background:

During the month of August 2023, Safeway stores in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Washington D.C. raised money at their cash registers to help schools for the 2023-24 school year. $5,702.35 was raised for Alexandria City Public Schools. The Safeway Foundation supports causes that impact customers’ lives, focusing on giving locally in the areas of health and human services, hunger relief, education and helping people with disabilities. These funds are unrestricted.

The Superintendent recommends that the School Board accept the donation of $5,702.35 to help cover the division’s lunch debt balance.
