An updated SLEP Advisory Group proposal is being presented to incorporate feedback received during the March 10, 2022 School Board meeting. The updated proposal contains 13 revisions/additions to the original proposal; a synopsis of the updates are noted below: ● Formal mission statement added ● Membership has expanded from 12 members to 16 members ● Added member slot for representative with experience in Black male achievement ● Clarified selection process for secondary principal member selection ● Updated portions of the selection process to include application process ● Clarified selection process for second student representative ● Updated teacher member selection process ● Updated timeline for first SLEP advisory group meeting ● Expanded subcommittee membership to include participatory members ● Clarified that each subcommittee will elect a Chairperson ● Specifically noted recommended focus group type within proposal ● Expanded feedback collection beyond focus group process ● Clarified role of School Board in supporting the SLEP advisory group

Background:

The concept of a SLEP Advisory Group was introduced during an October 2021 update to the School Board on the return of the School Resource Officer (SRO) program to ACPS through June 30, 2022. On March 10, 2022, the first iteration of the SLEP advisory group proposal was presented to the School Board.

Recommendation:

The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the updated SLEP Advisory Group proposal.
