Agenda Item Summary: ACPS continues to provide full support to our National Board of Certified Teachers (NBCT) Cohorts. The Mission of NBCT is to advance student learning and achievement. This year we are providing our Information Sessions earlier in the year so applicants have more time to prepare work within their standards. Recognitions for the 22–23 cohort members who have successfully completed the process will be held on April 11, 2024, at the Alexandria City Public School board meeting. A small reception for the cohort will be held prior to the board meeting.
Background: National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) have earned the teaching profession’s highest honor. The certification process identifies accomplished teachers through a rigorous program that includes four components: one exam and three portfolio submissions. Through NBCT, dedicated teachers demonstrate their commitment to teaching and maintaining the industry’s highest standards.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the information in this National Board of Certified Teachers Update.
