Agenda Item Summary:
|
This board brief provides an update on the completion of the 2021 Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) School Safety Audit. In accordance with Virginia Code § 22.1-279.8, all schools in Virginia are required to complete an annual safety audit. The audit is an assessment to:
i. Identify and, if necessary, develop solutions for physical safety concerns, including building security issues and
ii. Identify and evaluate any patterns of student safety concerns occurring on school property or at school sponsored events.

Background:

The Virginia School Safety Audit is made up of four main components:
• School & Division Safety Surveys
• Crisis Management Plans
• Virginia Schools Survey of Climate and Working Conditions (Annually in Spring)
• School Safety Inspection Checklists (Every 3 Years)
|

Recommendation:
|
The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the board brief update and the associated attachment(s). All components due this year were completed on August 25, 2021.
