Agenda Item Summary: A recent media request regarding the arrest demographic information for middle school prompted Safety & Security Services to re-confirm information provided on March 10, 2022. As part of this reconfirmation process, John Contreras (Director of Safety and Security Services) noted an error in the “Arrests” category of data. Although the percentages provided under the title “Racial Composition of Arrests” are correct, there was an error found in the total number of arrests for the middle school category which in turn prompted corrections in portions of the report and the associated slide presentation. The following data points have been corrected:

An incident accurately logged for Francis C. Hammond Middle School November 2021 was recorded as one arrest, when in fact three (3) individuals were arrested in that case/incident. Thus, the following data points have been corrected:
• The correct number of total arrests is 20 (from 18).
• The correct number of arrests for November is 7 (from 5).
• The correct number of Middle School arrests is 9 (from 7).
• In the attached presentation, slides 10 and 11 have been corrected.
• In the attached report, pages 20, 21, and 23 have been corrected.
Other sections of the report, to include data provided, were not affected by the above corrections.

The Office of Safety and Security Services regrets not catching the error when the data was originally presented and is providing this correction to the School Safety Data Report to reflect accuracy and transparency in reporting school safety data information.
Background: On March 10, 2022, a presentation on school safety data was presented to the School Board.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the school safety data report corrections.
