Agenda Item Summary:
SUMMARY:

1. OVERVIEW OF THE OFFICE OF SCHOOL, BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
In alignment with ACPS Strategic 2020 Goal 2- Family and Community Engagement, the Office of School, Business and Community Partnerships have identified the following domains in order to support integrated partnerships:
• Family Engagement
• School Engagement
• Community Engagement
• Public Outreach
• Partnerships and Civic Engagement

Each of these domains are a critical piece of the educational ecosystem and by working collaboratively, the Office of School, Business and Community Partnerships can provide a comprehensive and best practices approach that is more efficient and effective in providing positive outcomes for the families, students and community in which we serve.

2. EDUCATION FOUNDATION
The 2016-17 school year brought renewed interest by ACPS senior staff in exploring the feasibility of creating an education foundation to support the school division. During that school year, the ACPS Superintendent requested that the Director of the Office of School, Business and Community Partnerships (OSBCP) explore this concept in more detail and provide feedback. The Director of OSBCP enlisted the assistance of two volunteers to provide background research on the topic as he met with selected community stakeholders to gauge interest in and support for such an effort.

In January 2018, Mr. John Porter was hired to assist with further research to include development of a timeline and business plan as warranted. Changes in school division leadership, coupled with the need to receive formal school board support, direction and approval, resulted in the decision to move the concept forward but at a slower strategic pace. This updated strategy included recognizing the essential step of board involvement resulting in the attached report and presentation of findings at the March 7th ACPS Board of Education Meeting.

Detailed information and updates regarding the purpose, alignment, and identified opportunities of the Office of School, Business, and Community Partnerships and the Education Foundation Memo are found in the attachments.

Background:
1. SCHOOL, BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
The Office of School, Business, and Community Partnerships was established in 2016 to effectively coordinate partnerships, community outreach, volunteerism and grant funding opportunities across departments/schools and between ACPS, businesses, and community groups. In alignment with ACPS Strategic 2020 Goal 2- Family and Community Engagement, the vision of bringing together these domains has helped support the ACPS mission that “Every Student Succeeds”.
