Agenda Item Summary: The Office Of School Leadership works very closely with school principals to select dates for the 2023–2024 back-to-school nights. Dates are typically selected in the Spring of the prior school year. Back-to-school night dates reflect alternating dates for elementary and middle schools on opposite ends of the city to (1) minimize conflicts for parents/guardians attending at both the elementary and secondary levels, and (2) streamline the provision of interpretation services.
Background: Each year, back-to-school night events are scheduled within the first month of school. On these nights, parents/guardians are invited to come to meet the teachers and staff at each school, learn about their student(s)’ classes, and engage in discussions about the curriculum. Parent/Guardian outreach is done at both the division and school levels, and interpretation services are provided. In addition, ACPS carefully reviews observed holidays to avoid any conflict.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the information in this brief regarding the date change for 2023–2024 ACHS back-to-school nights.
