Agenda Item Summary:
|
The Office Of School Leadership works very closely with school principals to select dates for the 2023–2024 back-to-school nights. Dates are typically selected in the Spring of the prior school year. Back-to-school night dates reflect alternating dates for elementary and middle schools on opposite ends of the city to (1) minimize conflicts for parents/guardians attending at both the elementary and secondary levels, and (2) streamline the provision of interpretation services.

Background:
|
Each year, back-to-school night events are scheduled within the first month of school. On these nights, parents/guardians are invited to come to meet the teachers and staff at each school, learn about their student(s)’ classes, and engage in discussions about the curriculum. Parent/Guardian outreach is done at both the division and school levels, and interpretation services are provided. In addition, ACPS carefully reviews observed holidays to avoid any conflict.

The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the information in this brief regarding the date change for 2023–2024 ACHS back-to-school nights.
