Agenda Item Summary: In February 2024, the AHOF Advisory Committee met to begin the evaluation of nomination forms for selection of the members of the 2024 ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame. The committee formed subcommittees to evaluate nominees in specific athletic groups and these subcommittees made recommendations to the full committee for final evaluation and selection.

At the May 6, 2024 meeting, the AHOF Advisory Committee, by overwhelming consensus, selected the following members for induction into the ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame for 2024:

• 2008 T.C. Williams High School Boys Basketball Team
• Lucky Elliott—PGHS Alumnus--Contributor

The nominees were presented for information to the School Board at the May 23, 2024 School Board Meeting and are up for approval at the June 6, 2024 School Board Meeting.
Background: In February 2014, the Alexandria City School Board formed the Athletic Hall of Fame Advisory Committee in response to numerous requests to memorialize outstanding student athletes, and to inspire current students to strive for excellence. Eventually, the AHOF voted to include coaches, teams and administrators or contributors as eligible for recognition. Currently, there are 116 members of the ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame.

Each year, the Alexandria City School Board’s Athletic Hall of Fame Advisory Committee reviews community nominations of deserving high school athletes, teams, coaches and non-athlete contributors for inclusion in the ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame. Nominees are selected based on their athletic accomplishments in high school, college and beyond, as well as their impact or contribution to the community at large.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board approve the nominees for the 2024 ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame. These nominees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the October 12, 2024 induction ceremony.
