Agenda Item Summary:
On June 1, 2023 the School Board approved the creation of a Joint City Council/School Board School Law Enforcement Partnership (SLEP) Subcommittee composed of two members of the City Council appointed by the Mayor and two members of the School Board appointed by the Chair. The Chair recommends the School Board approve the following School Board members for appointment: ● Abdel-Rahman Elnoubi ● Jacinta Greene
Background:
At the February 27, 2023 Joint City Council/School Board work session, the School Law Enforcement Partnership (SLEP) Advisory Group recommendations were reviewed and discussed. City Council and School Board members determined that, in addition to formally updating the School Resource Officer (SRO) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to reflect the recommendations, the bodies would appoint a subcommittee to consider additional SRO best practices for consideration in a future MOU. The best practices will reflect the bodies’ mutual desire to promote a holistic approach to school safety and security, with eyes on innovative program structures that lead to positive impacts on school climate and safety. These recommendations will be shared in a joint Council/School Board work session. Monthly meetings began in September 2023, targeting conclusion in December 2023 with a joint work session to follow.
