Agenda Item Summary: A core value of ACPS is to ensure a welcoming environment where students feel safe, valued and engaged in learning, and is committed to developing practices and programs that encourage common goals around safety, security and healthfulness. Each year the School Board supports and highlights Gun Violence Awareness Day and Wear Orange Day held on the first Friday in June, and provides resources on its website about secure firearm safety, talking to your children about guns, and firearm suicide. Background: The Alexandria City School Board first adopted a Resolution Against Gun Violence on March 8, 2018 and has reaffirmed the resolution each year.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board adopt the Resolution on Gun Violence Awareness and Safe Gun Storage.
