Agenda Item Summary:

The Alexandria City School Board is interested in forming a new School Board Advisory Committee for the Arabic-speaking community to create opportunities for
engagement to better understand their needs, barriers, as well as resources and services needed to engage families. The formation of this new advisory committee would increase communication, trust, and involvement in decision-making.
The new advisory committee will begin meeting in the next school year.

Policy BCE—School Board Committees and BCF/BCR-R—Advisory Committees to the School Board give the School Board the authority to form additional School Board Advisory
Committees as it deems necessary. Advisory Committees provide opportunities for citizens to advise the Board on major issues pertaining to Alexandria City Public Schools.

The Superintendent recommends that the School Board approve the formation of the new advisory committee for the Arabic-speaking community.
