Agenda Item Summary:

Given the global pandemic, ACPS is forced to use the 2018-19 results as the last year of results available within the ACPS 2020 plan. In 2018-19, a total of 140 key performance indicator (KPI) results were calculated. More than half (56%) of these KPI results either met the target or improved upon the prior year’s performance with targets set to increase incrementally through 2020. The 56% in the most recent year is consistent with the previous year. Twenty-seven percent of KPI results remained consistent with the previous year (+/- two percentage points) and 16% of results declined by three or more percentage points.

The percentage of KPI results being met or improved upon within Goal 1 (“Academic Excellence and Educational Equity”) improved by six percentage points and by five percentage points within Goal 5 (“Health and Wellness”). Performance within Goal 6 (“Effective and Efficient Operations”) remained fairly consistent with the prior year. Decreases were seen in Goal 2 (“Family and Community Engagement”), Goal 3 (“An Exemplary Staff”), and Goal 4 (“Facilities and the Learning Environment“).

Background:

The Board adopted the ‘ACPS 2020’ strategic goals and objectives on June 11, 2015. A scorecard was developed establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for each strategic plan objective. Reported KPI outcomes were presented to the Board by goal area annually. The attached documents serve as the final report out of the ACPS 2020 strategic plan. The attached summary table provides goal area totals in lightly shaded grey and, beneath, results by objective within the goal area. The first column of each year indicates the number of KPIs with reported results for that given year. The performance results are broken out into the categories of decline, consistent, or improved/target met. The performance category with the highest total percentage is highlighted in a color representative of that category for each year and goal.
The final ACPS 2020 Scorecard, with each discrete KPI outcome, is also attached for reference.

The Board adopted the ‘Equity for All 2025” strategic plan on June 26, 2020. Moving forward, the division will leverage lessons learned on outcomes and processes to best inform an adaptive system of measurement to ensure a focus on racial equity at the heart.

Recommendation:

The Superintendent recommends the School Board review the attached materials for possible planning, procedural, programmatic, and/or budgetary changes.
