Agenda Item Summary: This brief updates the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) School Board about the 2024 Reading Standards Of Learning (SOL) Testing Schedule scheduled for 11th-grade students at the King Street Campus of Alexandria City High School (ACHS).
Background: The Reading SOL is a 40-question test that all 11th-grade students (approximately 900) must pass in order to earn their Verified Reading Credit and graduate high school. Additionally, school funding and accreditation are linked to both the pass rate and participation rate of this test. Historically, ACHS has worked towards improving our low participation rate. Students need to complete the Reading SOL for the federal participation rate under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Therefore, it is required that we ensure a 95% Participation Rate.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the information in this board brief that on May 20, 2024, Alexandria City High School - King Street will operate on a three-hour testing schedule.
