Agenda Item Summary:
In February 2023, the AHOF Advisory Committee met to begin the evaluation of nomination forms for selection of the members of the 2023 ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame. At the May 1, 2023 meeting, the AHOF Advisory Committee, by overwhelming consensus, selected the following members for induction into the ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame for 2023: • 1984 T.C. The 2023 AHOF Induction Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Alexandria City High School. The event includes a ceremony followed by the unveiling of plaques.
Background:
In February 2014, the Alexandria City School Board formed the Athletic Hall of Fame Advisory Committee in response to numerous requests to memorialize outstanding student athletes, and to inspire current students to strive for excellence. Eventually, the AHOF voted to include Coaches, teams and administrators/contributors as eligible for recognition. Currently, there are 105 members of the ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame. Each year, the Alexandria City School Board’s Athletic Hall of Fame Advisory Committee reviews community nominations of deserving high school athletes, teams, coaches and non-athlete contributors for inclusion in the ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame. Nominees are selected based on their athletic accomplishments in high school, college and beyond, as well as their impact or contribution to the community at large.
