Agenda Item Summary:
This board brief provides an overview on the digital mapping project being implemented within Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS).

Project Overview
On May 11, 2022, ACPS was awarded a $70,000 grant from the Department of Criminal Justice Services. The Facilities and Operations Department, Office of Safety and Security Services, is overseeing the implementation of this project. This state funded grant will allow ACPS to convert all building floor plans (maps) to high-resolution digital imagery, called “collaborative response graphics”. The new maps will be site-specific and enable better communication and emergency response between the Office of Safety and Security Services and first responders in the event of an emergency. Once implemented, select staff will also be able to utilize cell phone and laptop devices to navigate through a school when it becomes necessary for emergency response. This feature will allow us to utilize and better leverage technology already in place (Raptor Technologies).

Anticipated Timeline
The digital mapping project is expected to take approximately 90 days to complete, from site visit to approval and use of a building map. We are anticipating final completion of this project in October 2022.

Background:
The Department of Facilities and Operations, specifically the Office of Safety and Security Services, is responsible for safe implementation of emergency operations for the school division.
