Agenda Item Summary:
The Office of Pupil Transportation and Fleet Management has received three electric buses, and anticipate receiving another two by March 19, 2021. As we await the easement to be completed at the ACPS Transportation facility, we have been granted permission to park and charge the electric buses at the DASH facility. We will begin utilizing the electric buses to transport students by the end of May 2021, which will allow the necessary time to train drivers and complete a required incident simulation with Fire and Rescue.
Background:
In the summer of 2020, ACPS agreed to participate in a Dominion Energy-sponsored electric school bus program. Based on this agreement, Dominion Energy committed to funding the cost difference between electric and diesel buses for each participating school division. Included in the agreement is the complete cost of charging station infrastructure, paid for by Dominion Energy.
Recommendation
The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the board brief and attachment on the electric buses.
