Agenda Item Summary:
The Department of Facilities and Operations, Office of Safety and Security Services, is providing a final update on the weapons abatement pilot program.  
Background:
● The School Board approved the implementation of a weapons abatement pilot program in March 2023 ● The pilot program began in all secondary locations in May 2023 ● An update was provided to the School Board on the weapons abatement pilot program on February 22, 2024 ● A stakeholder survey on the weapons abatement pilot program was opened on April 5, 2024 and closed on April 28, 2024 ● Survey results and final recommendations on the future of the weapons abatement pilot program was presented to the School Board on May 23, 2024 ● School Board vote requested on June 20, 2024 to remove program from “pilot status” so program can become a formal part of security posture at secondary schools  
Recommendation
The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review staff recommendations again and to vote on removing the weapons abatement program from “pilot” status so the program can become a formal part of the security posture at secondary schools. Madam Chair, I move that the Board adopt the weapons abatement pilot program on a permanent basis provided that the Superintendent provides the Board with updates on the efficacy of this program at least once per school year.
