On October 8, 2022, Alexandria City Public Schools inducted one of its largest groups of inductees that included two teams, one coach and 23 athletes from 1944 through 2016 from four current and former high schools in Alexandria. These inductees were selected from a large number of nominations received from staff, alumni, athletes, and the community-at-large and was approved by the School Board at its June 2, 2022 School Board Meeting.
The 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees were honored in the Alexandria City High School auditorium, where honorees were presented with a duplicate plaque as the one hanging in the AHOF hallway located outside the Alexandria City High School’s Gerry Bertier gymnasium.
The event was significantly expanded in size from previous years, as the AHOF Committee continues to receive a significant number of deserving nominations annually and the Committee felt it was important to get a significant number recognized. This was the largest class of inductees and the attendance at the event was over 300 people.

Background:

At the conclusion of school year 2013-2014, the Alexandria City School Board approved the organization of a School Board Advisory Committee tasked to establish an Athletic Hall of Fame (AHOF) for the purpose of recognizing outstanding alumni athletes from current and former ACPS high schools. The committee developed the nomination and selection criteria to recognize athletes and held its first induction ceremony in December 2014. Since that time, the Athletic Hall of Fame Advisory Committee has held eight annual ceremonies, inducting 104 athletes, teams, coaches, and honorees as of October 8, 2022. The Athletic Hall of Fame plaques are displayed at Alexandria City High School in the hallway outside the Gerry Bertier Gymnasium. |
